Everyone brings a different game

Meet through the match.

A clever pass. A penalty escape. A rematch you cannot resist. Our goal is to bring blind communities together and help blind and sighted friends connect through the same football strategy game.

You do not need to disclose a disability or use the same controls as your opponent. Dotball's online matches run through Apple Game Center; this page helps you get started. It is not a player directory or a separate matchmaking service.

From hello to kickoff

Start with someone you know.

  1. Get ready on your own device

Each player needs Dotball on an iPhone or iPad, an internet connection, and their own Apple Account signed in to Game Center. Update to the latest public app version. Check the App Store for pricing and device compatibility.

  2. Choose how you want to play

Try Practice first. Open Match options to choose your language, sound and vibration preferences. Use VoiceOver, optional Audio Pitch, visual controls, or the combination that works for you. Each player chooses independently.

  3. Invite one friend

In Dotball's game-mode menu, choose Game Center (Online). Open Match options, then Play online. One person chooses Invite Players and invites the other; the recipient accepts the match invitation. Agree who sends it so you do not create two separate matches.

  4. Confirm your opponent

You are opponents on the pitch, friends off it. Confirm that the opponent's Game Center name is the person you intended to invite. When the board offers I'm ready, both players confirm. Wait for the ready check to finish before moving.

  5. Play, then compare your tactics

Follow the current-turn announcement or label and connect adjacent dots. You are playing the same match, with the same scoring rules. Use friendly reactions if you both enjoy them, and agree on a rematch when the game ends.

Same rules. Your preferences.

Choose what helps you follow the play.

VoiceOver

Dotball includes labeled board controls, spoken moves and turn information. On iPhone, find VoiceOver in Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver. It changes touch gestures; use Apple's practice guide if it is new to you.

Optional Audio Pitch

In Match options, turn on Audio Pitch. Try Test voice, Hear board position, Hear last move, and Explore legal moves. Check the voice-availability message before your match. Speech availability varies with language, device and installed voices.

Visual and haptic cues

Use the board, player labels and score to follow the match. Show coordinates and Vibration are in Match options. Try Test move vibration and Test PK vibration on your device; haptic support varies by hardware.

These are existing options, not a promise that every task works perfectly for every player. This page does not certify full accessibility. The app offers 15 language choices; that does not guarantee a matching spoken voice in every language. Tell us about any barrier you encounter.

A friendly match is a good beginning

Bring your community to the pitch.

A pair of friends, a local blind community, or a club in another country: start with a small, informal match and let players decide what makes it enjoyable.

  • Agree on a time zone, language and who will send the invitation.
  • Allow time for setup and Practice before the first match.
  • Ask each player what support they want; do not take over their controls.
  • Exchange Game Center details privately. Never request Apple passwords or verification codes.
  • Ask everyone before recording, streaming, or sharing their name or voice.

A few things worth knowing.

Can a blind player and a sighted player play each other?

That is the goal of this invitation: the same Dotball online match, with each person using their preferred controls. VoiceOver or Audio Pitch does not require your opponent to enable it. Try a short match together and report anything that prevents independent play.

The invitation arrived, but the game did not start. What next?

Check that both people accepted the match invitation, not just a Game Center friend request. Keep Dotball open on both devices, confirm the intended opponent, and complete the I'm ready check when offered. If you created separate lobbies, leave those lobbies and have only one person send a new invitation. Check your connection and app version. Do not use Quick Match expecting it to reconnect you to that specific friend.

What if we want a relaxed first game?

Begin with Practice, then arrange a turn-based Game Center match. Rush is a separate timed mode and is not the recommended introduction here. Agree on breaks and any voice call outside the game. The app's Rules button explains the selected mode.

Can I play from a browser or Android phone?

This page does not run the multiplayer game. These instructions are for Dotball on iPhone and iPad through Apple Game Center. Check the App Store for current supported devices.

How do I report an accessibility problem?

Tell us what you tried, what happened, and what you expected. Include your app and iOS version, device, selected language, and assistive settings if you are comfortable sharing them. No diagnosis, passwords or medical information is needed.
